Spiritual Works of Mercy

Why do we need Spiritual Works of Mercy?

Just as our bodies need nourishment to sustain growth in this earthly life, our souls also need nourishment to be able to grow in sanctification for the life to come. In performing Spiritual Works of Mercy for others, we are also doing ourselves a great favour. These works are like preventive medicine, helping our souls grow in truth and goodness. However, careful consideration should be taken performing the first three Spiritual Works of Mercy, as they require a depth of understanding and lived experience of the Catholic faith.

If we’re gentle and humble at all times, offering our work for the benefit of others, we will hear the Lord say: “Well done, good and faithful servant!” (Mt 25:21).
