A Mother’s Love

Mary, Queen and Mother of Mercy

The ancient titles attributed to Mary as Queen and Mother of Mercy were found in many of the Marian prayers (example: Hail Holy Queen, Memorare). The Blessed Virgin Mary is Queen of Mercy for in her heavenly place, she unceasingly intercedes, prays and implores God’s mercy for us. She dispenses grace and protects us. She is Mother of Mercy because as our spiritual mother, she brought forth for us a saviour—— the visible manifestation of the mercy of the invisible God. In her hymn of thanksgiving, the Magnificat (Lk 1:46-55), she praised God for His justice and care of the poor and proclaimed her experience of the wonder of God’s mercy. As her children, we are called to pray with her in praising God’s mercy and entrust ourselves to her in our time of needs. Happy Mother’s day to Mary, our merciful Queen and Mother!
