To forgive, not only others, but ourselves
When talking about forgiveness, much often, the focus is on why and how to forgive others. Very seldom do we think of the importance of self-forgiveness. In fact, the most painful thing a person faces is the realization that he/she is the cause of others’ suffering. When we do not forgive ourselves, we are in fact mocking God whose infinite mercy forgives even the gravest offence and the biggest sinner. When we do not forgive ourselves, we are telling God that we hate someone that God loves and has forgiven. When we do not forgive ourselves, we are saying to God that our sins are too much for Him to handle . This is not to say that we do not acknowledge our offence but we do not let self-guilt to spiral and draw us into self-hatred and despair. Remember, healing will never be complete without this self-forgiveness.
